It is unlikely that all the affected storage volume will be lost, because some aquifers are deeper than the gas fields and have their own shale caps.

Of those, many will undergo surgery to remove the tumor and will require some kind of breast reconstruction afterward, often involving implants. Cancer is an elusive target, though, and malignant cells return for as many as one-fifth of women originally diagnosed, according to the American Cancer Society.
Would it be possible to engineer implant materials that might drive down that rate of relapse? Brown University biomedical scientists report some promising advances. The team has created an implant with a "bed-of-nails" surface at the nanoscale (dimensions one-billionth of a meter, or 1/50,000th the width of a human hair) that deters cancer cells from dwelling and thriving. Made out of a common federally approved polymer, the implant is the first of its kind, based on a review of the literature, with modifications at the nanoscale that cause a reduction in the blood-vessel architecture on which breast cancer tumors depend while also attracting healthy breast cells.
"We've created an (implant) surface with features that can at least decrease (cancerous) cell functions without having to use chemotherapeutics, radiation, or other processes to kill cancer cells," said Thomas Webster, associate professor of engineering and the corresponding author on the paper in Nanotechnology. "It's a surface that's hospitable to healthy breast cells and less so for cancerous breast cells."
Webster and his lab have been modifying various implant surfaces to promote the regeneration of bone, cartilage, skin, and other cells. In this work, he and Lijuan Zhang, a fourth-year graduate student in chemistry, sought to reshape an implant that could be used in breast reconstruction surgery that would not only attract healthy cells but also repel any lingering breast-cancer cells. The duo created a cast on a glass plate using 23-nanometer-diameter polystyrene beads and polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA), a biodegradable polymer approved by the FDA and used widely in clinical settings, such as stitches. The result: An implant whose surface was covered with adjoining, 23-nanometer-high pimples. The pair also created PLGA implant surfaces with 300-nanometer and 400-nanometer peaks for comparison.
In lab tests after one day, the 23-nanometer-peak surfaces showed a 15-percent decrease in the production of a protein (VEGF) upon which endothelial breast-cancer cells depend, compared to an implant surface with no surface modification. The 23-nanometer surface showed greater reduction in VEGF concentration when compared to the 300-nanometer and 400-nanometer-modified implants as well.
It's unclear why the 23-nanoneter surface appears to work best at deterring breast-cancer cells. Webster thinks it may have to do something with the stiffness of malignant breast cells. When they come into contact with the bumpy surface, they are unable to fully wrap themselves around the rounded contours, depriving them of the ability to ingest the life-sustaining nutrients that permeate the surface.
"This is like a bed-of-nails surface to them," Webster said.
"I would guess that surface peaks less than 23 nanometers would be even better," Webster added, although polystyrene beads with such dimensions don't yet exist. "The more you can push up that cancerous cell, the more you keep it from interacting with the surface."
The pair also found that the 23-nanometer semispherical surface yielded 15 percent more healthy endothelial breast cells compared to normal surface after one day of lab tests.
Webster and Zhang next plan to investigate why the nanomodified surfaces deter malignant breast cells, to create surface features that yield greater results, and to determine whether other materials can be used.

LAMOINE, Maine ? After a fire that destroyed a local family?s home flared back up again Tuesday, friends and family of the fire victims are making arrangements to help them out.
Nicole Berzinis, Sean McLaughlin and their two young boys lost their home to fire Monday morning after McLaughlin had left for work and the two boys had headed off to the local elementary school for the day. No one was hurt in the blaze, which Berzinis discovered around 8 a.m. after she had gone outside to feed some ducks, but the house and everything in it was destroyed.
Stu Marckoon, Lamoine?s assistant fire chief, said Wednesday that the fire flared up again early Tuesday morning, ?which we fully expected.? The house had collapsed into a pile of rubble as it burned, he said, which always makes it difficult to fully extinguish smoldering embers.
Firefighters went back to the fire scene around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Marckoon said. After the sun came up, they spent several hours making sure there were no more burning embers that might reignite.
?We finally had it out by noontime,? he said.
An investigator from the State Fire Marshal?s Office was at the scene on Tuesday, but too much damage had been done to determine how the fire started. According to initial reports on Monday, it appeared to have started in a downstairs bedroom.
?There was not enough left for him to make a forensic finding,? Marckoon said.
He said that a local contractor played an important role in extinguishing the fire. Jay Fowler brought an excavator to the scene on Monday and operated it both Monday and Tuesday to help firefighters pull apart the burning pile of rubble.
Without the excavator, making sure the fire was out likely would have taken much longer than it did, Marckoon said.
?It would have taken 100 men three weeks to pull that apart [by hand],? he said.
To help the family find a new home and to replace some belongings, a benefit dinner has been scheduled for the end of the month at Lamoine Consolidated School, where the two McLaughlin boys are pupils.
According to information posted on the Town of Lamoine?s official website, the benefit supper and auction will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the school on Route 184. The event will include a raffle and auction. Requested donations are $6 per adult, $3 for children 12 years old and younger and $15 for a family of four.
Lynn Hines, a family friend, said Wednesday that a bank account to help the family has been set up at Bangor Savings Bank. Financial donations can be made out to ?McLaughlin Family Fund? and deposited at any Bangor Savings Bank branch, she said.
?It is tragic,? Hines said. ?Nothing [inside the home] was salvageable.?
Hines said the Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross has put the family up at a nearby motel until long-term housing arrangements can be made.
So yesterday I got an email from apple stating a competitor claimed that my app was too similar to his and that it should be removed from the app store.
In his statement he claimed that he had not actually used my app but by the way my screenshots looked he could tell that my app "plagiarizes" his functionality, layout and appearance.
Does apple even look at these claims before they send them out? Or am I just crazy to think that maybe someone might have to use an app to know that the app plagiarizes functionality, layout and appearance?
Later in the letter he states that his sales have been hurt and that my app is ranked higher than his. he even states that I have grass in one of my backgrounds and so does he but on a diff page.... I guess he holds the copyright to having grass backgrounds on sports apps heads up everyone.
idk this just blows my mind. I will keep you updated on the case. I have since written him back explaining that my app acts nothing like his and in fact has 2x the stats and features that his app has. I even offered to give him a promo so he could see that they are not the same.
I dont know law that well and could be totally wrong but this just seems silly. If others could share their experiences that would be great. I am not sure what to expect but I will share how the process goes for me.

it sounds like another douche bag thinking he can monopolize a type of app. Just file a counter notification and then when you win, sue the bastard for the downtime of your app.
to answer your question about if apple reads these, NO. any claims even false ones will suspend your app until you file a counter. so really any jackass can do this but they will be held liable if they don't hold any true rights.

Well, i m a lawyer in my country (Turkey) but i dont know there is any difference between Turkish IP Law and US IP Law.
But let me try to help you basicly and fundamentally,
1-Whose app is first on iTunes ?
2-He has a registered patent or something like this ?
3-It is impossible to hold a grassed surfaced background for sport apps. Its unbelievable, if its so, i know many apps which has to be removed.
4-IP Law, accepts "inspiration". You may have inspired by something or his app(lets say you really copied him, i know you did not)
Because of not to knowing legal terminalogy very well (workin on it), i cannot help you about writing a good answer to Apple, i m sorry for that.

The sad fact is that he is just a jealous competitor that is upset because your app is better than his. There are how many car racing games? How many soccer games? How many shooting games?
GAMEPLAY is not copyright, he is just stupid trust me relax its no big deal. Email apple with a counter argument that HE copied the design of your app. Also dont try to reason with the other competitor, he is obviously bent on getting you out of the app store since he didint even talk to you first before contacting apple NOR did he even buy your app lmfao! So your ranking dont go up. Pathetic if you ask me.
Counter their claim with your own to apple, and dont try to reason with them there is no point there are countless claims like this on this forum, in all cases the one upset that you copied the app, is usually someone very stubborn and irrational.

if you do nothing about this to apple, APPLE will remove your app from the app store. Its just how it is they wont bother to do anything about it. he claimed ownership first over this idea that you stole it, so they will most likely do what he wants UNLESS you do message apple.

I'm pretty sure that Apple's servers just automatically send out the notice when someone fills in the complaint form - or some other similarly mechanistic process.
Just lay our your case and email it to Apple. They'll respond that they can't intermediate between parties, but if this is as stupid as you say, I doubt you'll hear about it again.
But, if it were an app of mine that was making money and the other guy became a pain, I'd ask my lawyer to explain to him how expensive it could get to defame me and risk my good standing with Apple.

Hey guys thanks a ton for the insight. It blows my mind anyone could make a claim like this and apple would let it go this far. Their app was out first (in 2010) but there are no patents on their app they are just claiming I infringe on the copyright granted to them when they submitted the app to apple.
The only email address I have for apple is the one which I initially received when getting this notice: AppStoreNotices@apple.com. I cc?d this address when I sent responses defending my app but I have not heard anything back from apple. Should I be contacting them another way like through itunes connect or by phone?

IANAL, but here are my thoughts...
In order for copyrights to be violated it has to be a copy as in direct copy or derivate copy which is close in context to the original. Otherwise it is at best a patent and at worst a trade secret. Since this is about "look and feel" then I am going to rule out trade secret as a possible claim. Unless patents are mentioned your competitor is going out on a limb and trying to extort money out of you by threating legal action based on fraugulent claims. He can't possibly win unless you are lazy or stupid. Consider if you are particularly attached to the apps you have created which he is claiming "ownership" of, and see if he is interested in purchasing your IP, i.e. apps. Make sure you don't approach him asking for money, he has to be the one that proposes a monetary amount, and keep the negotions focused on "IP transfer". Also, do everything neccessary to keep Apple in the loop as far as your apps not infringing on any copyrights of his as much as the images and the app binary is concerned.
Good luck. Here's to hoping he goes away or you win some other way.
